Karl Stefanovic

This week we grill the popular co-host of Channel 9's TODAY show, Karl Stefanovic.

1. What's your favourite Friday night meal and where will you eat it – home or out?

Spaghetti and red wine at home with the family.

2. Friends unexpectedly drop by and you ask them to stay for dinner. What do you cook on unplanned entertaining occasions like this?

I've always got chicken in the fridge and red wine, so I'd knock together something exotic — like coq au vin.

3. What dishes are in your repertoire?

I'm good at basic things; anything on the barbecue and anything out of the Stephanie Alexander cookbook.

4. For a romantic night in or out, what's on the menu?

I love going to French restaurants — so anything French.

5. What's your secret indulgence food?

I am quite partial to cheese and red wine!

6. What food couldn't you live without?

Cheese and red wine!

7. What's your favourite health food?

My favourite health food is hummus.

8. What's your favourite aisle at the supermarket?

The pasta aisle.

9. If you could have five foods on a dessert island, what would they be?

Camembert, pork knuckle, a toasted cheese sandwich, pavlova and chicken noodle soup.

10. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Hummus on 97 per cent fat free salads.

11. What's your favourite restaurant?

Crown Guiame's.

12. Have you ever eaten with anyone famous?

I did actually have a lamb roast with Tom Cruise.

13. What's your worst eating habit?

Eating too much.

14. Do you think food and wine matching is over-rated?

No, it's under-rated. I believe you can match shiraz to any meal.

15. What's the most memorable meal you've eaten overseas?

Snails in Paris; in Paris they're pretty hard to pass by.

16. What food would you quite happily never eat again?

Ox tongue.

17. What's one ingredient you always have in your pantry?

Pasta.

18. If you could invite three famous people to a dinner party, who would they be?

Cameron Williams, Lisa Wilkinson and Georgie Gardner!

19. Who's your favourite celebrity chef?

I'd have to say Luke Mangan. He's not only a great chef, but he has a great sense of humour.

20. Who, out of your fellow TODAY presenters, would be your preferred dining companion and why?

Don't make me choose.... all of them!

She makes a cracking fish pie and I mentioned that I was going to try a seafood pie with prawn tails poking out the top.
